After pioneering the road-switcher design with the RS-1, ALCO sought to regain that marketwith the RS-11 in 1956. Despite better tractive effort and fuel economy than the GP9, the RS-11 struggled against the company’s reputation for
reliability. In spite of that reputation, a handful of surviving examples continue to prove the critics wrong today. With their distinctive look and sound, these ALCO’s make a great addition to any roster.
